The most common treatment approaches for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).Although both treatments have shown to be effective for PTSD approximately 30-45% of patients show no significant improvements. Therefore, further improvement can be made to treating PTSD. Nordahl, Halvorsen, Hjemdal, Ternava & Wells (2018) will be conducting a randomized superiority trial comparing MCT vs EMDR for PTSD. The trial will be a two-arm, parallel, randomized superiority trial comparing the effectiveness of MCT with EMDR in patients with chronic PTSD.
