About Us

MCTI® was founded by Dr Adrian Wells and Dr Hans Nordahl, both of whom are practising Clinical Psychologists and academics. They each have more than 20 years experience in assessing, treating and researching the causes of mental health problems.

Adrian Wells holds the positions of Professor of Clinical and Experimental Psychopathology at the University of Manchester, UK and Professor II in clinical psychology at the Norwegain University of Science and Technology, Norway. He is an honorary consultant clinical psychologist in the NHS. He is the originator of Metacognitive Therapy and a leading contributor to cognitive therapy theory and practise. His treatments are cited in NHS NICE guidelines. He has published over 200 scientific papers, books and chapters advancing theory, evidence, and the treatment of psychological disorders.

Co-Director: Hans M Nordahl

Hans M Nordahl (PhD) is a clinical psychologist and professor in Behavioural Medicine at NTNU, Trondheim. He is the co-director of the MCT Institute® Ltd and works with education and treatment in MCT. He also directs education in clinical supervision. Nordahl is a professor and head of research projects and has published over 160 papers and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and books. He has expertise in the areas of anxiety disorders, personality disorder, complex trauma and emotional disorders as well as supervision of therapists.
