Metacognitive Therapy for Alcohol Use Disorder

Caselli et al (2018) conducted the first case series of Metacognitive Therapy for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). Five patients received 12 one-hour sessions of individual MCT. At post-treatment all patients demonstrated large and clinically meaningful reductions in weekly alcohol use and the number of binge drinking episodes. This is the first study to evaluate MCT in AUD and provide preliminary evidence for the use of MCT in AUD, however further large scale evaluations are needed.
